The UN funded the UNRWA and indirectly the terrorists of Hamas. The UNRWA Hamas Gaza project never was intended to bring democracy to Gaza. It was intended to destroy Israel. In this the UN and the UNRWA violated the UN Charter. Did the UNRWA and the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres knew before October 7, 2023 about the coming genocide by Hamas upon civilians of Israel? The US should investigate the actions and whereabouts of the Secretary-General iand other UN members n the days before the October 7, 2023 massacre.
UNRWA’s funding comes almost entirely from voluntary contributions, with the primary sources being UN Member States, the European Union, and regional governments. In 2023, the EU and its member states provided the largest share (42% or US$606.8 million), followed by other significant government donors like the United States, Germany, and France, which collectively contributed 56% of the Agency’s total funding of approximately US$1.46 billion. The total sponsoring in 2024 was US$1.27 billion received and US$1.4 billion pledged, of which is US$73 Million of the UN.
After the Octobre 7 2023 genocide by Hamas, most senior UN officials, including Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, and Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace Tor Wennesland issued strong and immediate condemnations of Hamas. Unfortunately, they give Hamas legitimacy by failing to label Hamas a terrorist organization. The High Commissioner referred to “Palestinian armed groups” and didn’t even mention Hamas. The Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace used the term “Hamas militants” instead of Hamas terrorists. In addition, it is regrettable that none of these initial statements talked about Hamas’s flagrant violations of international law or expressly affirmed Israel’s inherent right to self-defense.
In a later statement, on October 9th, the Secretary-General mentioned “Israel’s legitimate security concerns,” but this was only in the context of criticizing the impact on civilians of Israel’s retaliatory strikes on Hamas in Gaza. In a situation like this, where a UN member state is invaded and its civilians barbarically attacked, we would expect UN officials to refer to the UN Charter and strongly uphold that attacked state’s right to self-defense. This is the type of language we saw in the statements by the Secretary General and High Commissioner on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
UNRWA turned a blind eye as Hamas terror chiefs held top positions within the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) educational system and promoted terrorism and radicalization, a scathing new report by the watchdog UN Watch has revealed.
Despite seemingly being led by an international team under Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, UN Watch found that the majority of UNRWA’s operations on the ground are led by local leaders, who, especially in Gaza and Lebanon, are Hamas members or leaders. In fact, over 99% of UNRWA’s 30,000 employees are area staff. Only 120 employees at the agency are international staff, funded by the United Nations in New York.
Of the local staff, support for Hamas is rampant. UN Watch previously revealed that a 3,000-member UNRWA staff Telegram chat group cheered the October 7 atrocities. Prior to October 7, UNRWA school principal and UNRWA Gaza Staff Union head Suhail Al-Hindi was publicly revealed to be involved with Hamas terror chiefs, but was not fired. Similarly, in Lebanon, UNRWA management failed to fire Fateh Sharif, who had served for years simultaneously as the head of the UNRWA Lebanon Teachers’ Union and as a senior leader of Hamas in Lebanon.
Israel is a full member state of the United Nations (UN), having been admitted to the organization on May 11, 1949, through General Assembly Resolution 273. Israel’s admission was a result of the UN General Assembly’s consideration of its application, which followed its establishment as a state in May 1948. The UN Charter recognizes the right to self-defense in Article 51, stating that nothing in the Charter impairs the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense if an armed attack occurs against a UN Member.Israel has the right to defend by the UN Charter.
Its clear the marxist socialist UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is not fit for the job of bringing peace to the Middle East and Israel. Marxists are known to their antisemitism. Instead UN Secretary-General and its staff brought antisemitism to all countries the world. After 80 years of peace the UN and its Secretary-General have brought war and antisemitism. This will be no more.
