Three years ago Putin started the war of Russia with Ukraine illegally. With the illegal change of the Russian Constitution Putin proclaimed to be President for more terms. The Russian Constitution should have been changed article for article but Putin did that in one term for multiple articles. This term to be President of the Russian Federation therefore is illegal. And not being a legal President, warlord Putin started the war with Ukraine illegally.
Volodymyr Zelensky was elected President of Ukraine on April 21, 2019. On May 20, 2019 sworn in as the 6th President of Ukraine. Such according to the Constitution of Ukraine. Normally, presidential elections were supposed to take place in the spring of 2024. But that didn’t happen, and it won’t happen anytime soon. After all, Ukraine is under martial law, and according to the constitution, elections are not allowed.
Organizing elections while cities are being bombed and men are fighting on the front lines would also be a logistical nightmare. As long as martial law continues, Zelensky will remain in power: constitutional experts agree on that. They invoke Article 108 of the Constitution, which states that “the president exercises his powers until a newly elected president takes office.” Thus President Zelensky has a fundamental right to be President of Ukraine and should take part of the peace negotiations with US and Russia.
Casualties in the Russo-Ukrainian War include six deaths during the 2014 annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, 14,200–14,400 military and civilian deaths during the War in Donbas, and up to 1,000,000 estimated casualties during the Russian invasion of Ukraine till mid-September 2024. Almost 2% of the Russian population are killed in this Russia – Ukraine war.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) verified a total of 40,838 civilian casualties during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as of December 31, 2024. Of them, 28,382 people were reported to have been injured. However, OHCHR specified that the real numbers could be higher.
Considering the illegal start of the invasion war by Russia, all parts of Russia, including the Crimea shall be part of Ukraine again. And all parts of Russia who are occupied by Ukraine shall be returned to Russia. Because Russia has turned the occupied areas uninhabitable, military from the EU shall clean these areas to be habitable and liveable again. The border of Ukraine shall be respected for decades.
All Ukraine children and people taken by Russia shall be returned. All deceased military and civilians shall be given a respectful burial. After cleaning the occupied areas the areas shall be rebuild (infrastructure, energy, houses, work) with the help of EU countries. Then there will be Presidential elections in Ukraine to affirm President Zelensky for another term.
